Tropical South Pacific weather resources Rory Garland, S/Y Streetcar March 2014 For those cruising the tropical south Pacific and trying to make decisions based on the weather, the number of different weather and climate resources available can seem daunting. I hope these notes will help make some sense of it all. I’ve spent the last 2 years in the region (including two cyclone seasons) and have had the opportunity to consider most sources of information. In the end, for me, it is the diversity of weather information that helps make better decisions. I try to make sure I choose and compare information from across the field of uncertainty. In this way I can get an idea of the likelihood of a forecast being correct. It is human nature to want to know exactly what will happen, and dockside chatter is commonly about people pinning their colours to a particular scenario.
